Shamwari Yemwanasikana

Shamwari Yemwanasikana, a community-led organisation, is committed to empowering the girl child and creating a society where girls can flourish without barriers. Their work focuses on addressing systemic challenges such as menstrual poverty, which continues to hinder girls’ education and confidence. Recently, the organisation turned its attention to Manicaland and Chikombwe School in Chitiyo Village, in Zimbabwe, where access to basic necessities, including menstrual hygiene products, is extremely limited. For many girls in this area, menstrual pads are considered a luxury, and the lack of access often forces them to miss school, impacting their academic performance and future opportunities. Through AfricaGiving, Shamwari Yemwanasikana was able to raise enough money to purchase 120 packs of menstrual pads, which were distributed to 63 girls at two schools. Each girl received two packs, providing a sustainable supply for their immediate needs and ensuring they could attend school without interruption. The impact was profound. Teachers reported noticeable improvements in the academic performance of some recipients, and the emotional change was evident in the bright smiles of the girls who received the pads. Many of these young beneficiaries expressed a strong commitment to work harder in school so they can one day help other vulnerable children, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and leadership. One young girl summed up the spirit of this initiative in her own words: “As a young girl, I am grateful for this donation, and I will forever remain committed to help other girls in the future from underprivileged families to reach their full potential.” Thank You Your kindness has not only provided menstrual hygiene products but has also restored dignity and opened doors for education. Together, we are breaking barriers and building a brighter future for girls everywhere.
